The Personal Learning Center, International (PLC/i) was first organized in December of 1995 as the education arm of the Hawking Institute, a non-profit organization incorporated within the state of Georgia. The Hawking Institute is now known as the Hawking Foundation and is a non-profit organization that works to make education available to a global student body, via the Internet, in an equitable and accessible format.
Named for Dr. Stephen Hawking of Cambridge University in Cambridge, England, the Hawking Foundation continues its research and development efforts around the world and has given the Personal Learning Center, International a grant to facilitate its first pilot program for the International Diploma Program. This pilot program will include students from Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Zimbabwe and Cameroon.
Open registration for Summer and Fall of 2009 is now open for students around the world in both the American High School Diploma and the International Diploma programs. Please visit the links below for diploma requirements and information on how to enroll.
